Exploring the Relationship between Alcohol and Other Drugs and Acquired Brain Injury

The concept of Acquired Brain Injury (AOD/ABI) and the causes for it as well as the relationship between ABI and alcohol and other drugs are discussed. One of the Department of Human Services initiatives was to have what was once two separate service sectors working collaboratively together. The process of changing to a more collaborative approach has produced improved treatment outcomes for clients. For example, a clinician who has identified a client as having cognitive impairment refers them to the AOD/ABI Clinician for ongoing support and education on a regular basis.
